Western Australia Residential Battery Scheme
Plenti announced as the administrator and financier for the Western Australia Residential Battery Scheme
Plenti Group Limited (Plenti) announces that it has been advised by the Western Australian Government that it intends to appoint Plenti as administrator and financier for Western Australia’s Residential Battery Scheme, a key initiative aimed at accelerating the adoption of batteries across the state.
Under the scheme, eligible Western Australian households can access rebates towards the cost of installing a solar battery system of up to $1,300 for Synergy customers and up to $3,800 for Horizon Power customers, depending on the size of the battery. No-interest loans for up to $10,000 will also be available to households with a combined gross annual income of less than $210,000.
Plenti’s appointment as administrator and financier reinforces its position as a leader in sustainable finance, with a proven track record of delivering clean energy funding to households across Australia. The decision to select Plenti reflects the strength of its platform, proven delivery capabilities and robust vendor partnerships.
Through its technology, Plenti provides a simple application and management portal for accredited vendors, allowing households to access both rebates and financing in one simple experience. This technology-driven approach ensures the scheme can be delivered quickly, at scale, and with a high standard of customer experience from application through to installation.
"Plenti is proud to support the Western Australian Government to deliver this landmark battery initiative. With up to 100,000 rebates available, this is one of the most significant programs of its kind, and we’re excited to facilitate its impact. With our proven track record of running government funding programs that help Australian households decarbonise, we’re confident in our ability to support the successful rollout of this scheme and play our part in accelerating Australia’s transition to a smarter, more resilient energy system.”

WA Residential Battery Scheme
The scheme forms part of the state government’s broader strategy to help Western Australian households with the cost-of-living pressures, support Western Australian businesses and jobs, and further the state’s energy transition by supporting the uptake of renewables.
By 1 July 2025, the Western Australian Government will offer rebates of up to $1,300 for Synergy customers ($130 per kWh of battery capacity) and up to $3,800 for Horizon Power customers ($380 per kWh of battery capacity), with the value determined by the size of the battery.
No-interest loans for up to $10,000 will also be available to households with a combined annual income of less than $210,000 and loan repayment periods will be up to 10 years.
Virtual Power Plant requirements
To be eligible for the scheme, households will be required to connect their battery to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP).
With the scheme expanded to support up to 100,000 battery installations, it has the potential to deliver around 1 GWh of distributed storage capacity. To ensure this storage delivers maximum benefit to Western Australians, coordination is key, which is only achievable through VPP participation. As such, VPP enrolment is a requirement for households accessing the rebate.
Through VPPs, households can sell excess stored energy back to the grid, contributing to the decarbonisation of WA’s energy system while unlocking direct financial benefits.
Industry forum
An industry forum co-hosted by the Western Australian Government and Plenti is scheduled for mid-June. The session will outline the requirements and processes for the WA Residential Battery Scheme.
It is expected to be held both in person and online, with further details to be shared soon.
